Dear Members and Visitors,
Hope this finds everyone well and looking forward to the spring season, Easter, or Passover, or any other celebrations that spring brings.
For those of us who teach, this always tends to be the crunch months-got to squeeze all the curriculum into the last few months! Our 5th grade classes have been preparing animal projects/reports over the past few months and will be presenting them this Wednesday. This is the biggest project done by the grade and the kids really get excited about it. Being this is my first year at the middle school, I am also looking forward to it. Each of the 4 classrooms, including the Resource Room, are decorated to resemble an animal's habitat. We will be featuring the ocean, grasslands, woodlands, desert, and tropical rainforest. Each animal report has to be extensively researched, using 3 different sources for information: internet, library, periodicals. The writing process is followed at each step, and student laptops are used in the classrooms to help put together the reports. Templates are handed out to students as to the ket areas to research, internet links to animals and their environments are provided by both the librarian and teachers. In addition to the actual report, a creation of a trifold is also required. This display is to advertise the highlights of the project with information and pictures. The students also have to choose 3 activities to also present with the report. It can be a game, a menu that their animal would enjoy at a restaurant,(these are fun!), a life-size model, a poem about the animal.
As I am writing this, I am wondering if any of our teacher members have any special projects that they are doing right now? It would be great to be able to share projects if members would want to write in. Think about it- it would be really interesting to find out what different grades/classrooms are doing.
In the meantime, everyone enjoy families and friends at this time of year. Keep in touch! Hope to have more members stopping by and signing up! _________________ Have a great day;-)

The animal project sounds neat, especially the decorating of the classrooms. Our big 4th grade project is a Pennsylvania History Fair. Each student selects a topic about PA, past or present. They write a research paper, complete a model, and dress up in costume for their presentation. They must be able to speak about their topic without the help of their report. The other classes in the school visit during the day. At night, the Fair is open for parents and friends. It will take place May 16th.

Dear Sabteach,
Sounds like a very fun project! Projects take much time but the end results always make the efforts worthwhile when you can see the reactions of the students! Good luck to you and your class! _________________ Have a great day;-)
